Initial Thoughts on the concept of evil

Evil is the concept we use to describe the atrocities that occur outside the sphere of morality. The concept of evil, illustrates the crimes and actions whose brutality and justifications we are unable to comprehend. However, a dilemma still exists for me as to the classification of evil. Is a person inherently evil? Or, is evil created by a person’s experiences and beliefs? This question exists primarily because of the ambiguity surrounding the definition of evil. The concept is so broad and impactful, that upon hearing the word, one immediately has questions and a negative thought process toward the thing that is being classed as evil. However, the power of the concept, acts as a deterrent in society to kids of very young ages, all the way to elderly people. The dynamic of Evil vs. Good, for many gives children a false choice as to what side they want to take, whether to be looked at as evil or good. The deterrence begins to operate, from the very moment a person understands the impact and negativity of evil, and how it is perceived. The concept, along with good, is the foundation to our justice system and our societal morals and values. Such a simple dynamic lays the groundwork for the system, that has allowed humans to enjoy the prosperity and advance we pride ourselves on.
